We are a fully equipped classical Pilates studio offering semi-private mat and apparatus classes and private lessons in the beautiful Beaumont neighborhood of Portland, Oregon. Owned and operated by Johnna Buchanan, our studio honors the legacy of the method, created nearly a century ago by Joseph Pilates. The founding principles of the Pilates method are based on the idea that one can truly transform the body through dedicated and rigorous practice. We believe that the best results come from consistently working the full system—the mat, the Reformer, the chair, barrels and the Cadillac. Our Pilates instructors will guide you through challenging workouts that tighten the core, improve strength and flexibility, and, of course, make you look and feel great.
At JBP, we believe that Pilates is more than just a workout. Not only does Pilates tone and sculpt the body in noticeable ways, it also helps you to age gracefully, strengthening and stretching the muscles, while rejuvenating your entire system. It helps prevent injuries by enhancing the body’s balance and posture. Pilates makes the spine more flexible and helps you learn the power of control and the strength that comes with it. All of this begins with the breath. And because Pilates is not hard on the body, but eases you into stronger and more secure positions, it is one of the few exercise regimens that you can begin at a young age and continue well into your mature years.

Johnna Buchanan is a fully certified Pilates instructor. Eight years of teaching and over a decade of personal practice yields her a discerning eye for strengths and weaknesses. She has an impeccable instinct for how to meet challenges and nurture each person and their goals. In studio sessions are bespoke for each individual or small group. Consistent workouts with her will change you—body and mind. Anticipate gaining strength, alignment and mobility to better serve your daily life. In-studio work is reinforced with supportive homework and a network of wellness experts to compliment her customized training programs. Johnna is compassionate in her work and truly enjoys seeing her clients evolve and succeed.

A seasoned movement instructor, Joey believes that movement goes beyond exercise. It is a vital form of self-care and therapy. Joey’s sessions are therapeutic with playful energy. She is focused on creating customized and intentional, long-term programs for every client to achieve their personal goals in a welcoming atmosphere. Joey believes Pilates is the deepest form of self-care and she is dedicated to creating a supportive and enjoyable environment to grow in your Pilates practice. As Joseph Pilates famously said, “Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness.” Pilates transformed Joey’s life bringing her joy, strength and a profound connection to her body and mind. Alex fell in love with Pilates twenty years ago when she wandered into her first classical mat class with her mom. After years of practicing, Alex was inspired to become an instructor to share her passion for Pilates with others and help people of all fitness levels experience its benefits. She believes deeply in the core principles of classical Pilates, coaching concentration, precision, and flow in her classes. Alex views Pilates as a form of active meditation, offering a space to quiet the mind while strengthening the body. Whether her students are working toward specific goals or at their peak fitness, Alex is committed to creating a supportive environment where everyone can thrive while moving with intention.
